AIS Statement: Executive Action Offers Relief to Undocumented Spouses and Their Families
The Alliance for Immigrant Survivors supports a Biden administration executive action to protect more than 500,000 undocumented families.
This is a crucial step for survivors of gender-based violence in mixed-status households, preventing unnecessary deportations, keeping families together, and enabling them to fully contribute to the economy. Potentially tens of thousands of DACA recipients will also benefit from new regulations facilitating their access to work visas.
AIS Statement: aca eligibility expansion excludes some immigrant survivors
The Alliance for Immigrant Survivors appreciates the issuance of guidance for newly eligible categories of immigrants who are lawfully present, including 600,000 DACA recipients, asylum applicants, young people applying for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and T-visas for human trafficking victims.
Unfortunately, under the rule, immigrant survivors of domestic and sexual violence seeking U visas awaiting deferred action will continue to be excluded from access to healthcare exchanges.
AIS Statement: Senate Funding Deal Would Gut Asylum Protections
U.S. Senate negotiators released emergency legislation that would enact harmful policy changes drastically limiting eligibility for asylum. Disastrously, it fails to adequately consider the vulnerabilities and unique challenges faced by immigrants fleeing gender-based violence.
We should not be negotiating away our values in the face of these challenges. We urge Senators to vote no on this proposal and for the Administration to prioritize protective policies that ensure the well-being and fair treatment of all individuals, especially those fleeing gender-based violence.
